S.I. No. 271/1978 - European Communities (Surveillance of Certain Clothing and Footwear Imports) Regulations, 1975 (Amendment) Regulations, 1978.


I, DESMOND O'MALLEY, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to the Decisions of the Commission of the European Communities dated 12th May, 1971 (No. 71/202/EEC) and 9th March, 1973 (No. 73/55/EEC), hereby make the following Regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Surveillance of Certain Clothing and Footwear Imports) Regulations, 1975 (Amendment) Regulations, 1978, and shall come into operation on the 2nd day of October, 1978.

2. The European Communities (Surveillance of Certain Clothing and Footwear Imports) Regulations, 1975 ( S.I. No. 116 of 1975 ), as amended by the European Communities (Surveillance of Footwear Imports) Regulations, 1976 ( S.I. No. 61 of 1976 ) and the European Communities (Surveillance of Certain Clothing and Footwear Imports) (Amendment) Regulations, 1978 ( S.I. No. 155 of 1978 ), are hereby amended by the substitution of the following for the last paragraph:

" 4. The importation into the State of any goods to which these Regulations apply and which do not originate in the European Communities shall be subject to the production by the importer of an import authorisation issued by the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy.".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the system of surveillance of imports of certain clothing and textiles so as to provide that such goods of European Communities origin will no longer be subject to surveillance.
