Inn or alehouse keepers or papists not to be supervisors,
deputy constables recommended by supervisors to, and approved by lord mayor.

V. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That from and after the first day of May one thousand seven hundred and sixty six no person or persons keeping publick inns, alehouses, or houses of entertainment, or papists, shall be qualified to act as supervisors or directors of the watch; and that no person shall act as deputy constable, who shall not, after he is chosen by the church wardens and parishioners or the major part of them, be recommended by the supervisors or directors, or the usual quorum, in their respective parishes to the lord mayor for the time being as a fit person to serve in the said office, and be approved by the said lord mayor.
