INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH AND STANDARDS (SECTION 44) (CHILDREN'S NIGHTDRESSES) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1979.

I, DESMOND O'MALLEY, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 44 of the Industrial Research and Standards Act, 1961 (No. 20 of 1961), and the Industry and Commerce (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1977 ( S.I. No. 306 of 1977 ), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Industrial Research and Standards (Section 44) (Children's Nightdresses) (Amendment) Order, 1979.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 28th day of June, 1979.

3. It shall be unlawful to manufacture, assemble or sell a children's nightdress unless it complies with Irish Standard 148 : 1966, as amended (being the standard specification for flammability of children's nightdresses declared by the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards).

4. This Order shall apply only to a nightdress intended for sale to the public in the State.

5. The Industrial Research and Standards (Section 44) (Children's Nightdresses) Order, 1967 ( S.I. No. 4 of 1967 ) is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The purpose of this Order is to prohibit the manufacture, assembly or sale of children's nightdresses unless they comply with the prescribed flammability requirements of Irish Standard 148: 1966 as amended. The Order replaces an earlier Order, S.I. No. 4 of 1967 covering children's nightdresses.
