Oireachtas (Allowances To Members) (Amendment) Act, 1968

Amendment of section 6A of Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Act, 1938.

1.—Section 6A of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Act, 1938 (being the section inserted by section 5 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) and Ministerial and Parliamentary Offices (Amendment) Act, 1960 ), as amended by section 30 of the Superannuation and Pensions Act, 1963 , is hereby further amended by the addition of the following subsection:

“(6) (a) Notwithstanding anything contained in the foregoing subsections of this section—

(i) an amendment under subsection (4) of this section may provide, in relation to deceased persons who were members of the Oireachtas, for pensions for their widows and children,

(ii) the Minister may, out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas, make such grants as he considers proper to the fund maintained pursuant to a scheme to which this section applies.

(b) In subparagraph (i) of the foregoing paragraph ‘children’ includes a person for whose adoption there stood in force, at the time of the death of the relevant deceased person, an adoption order under the Adoption Act, 1952 , which specified that deceased person as the adopter or one of the adopters.”
