MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS ACT, 1961.


AN ACT TO AMEND THE PROVISIONS OF THE MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS ACT, 1951 , RELATING TO THE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR FULL REGISTRATION IN THE REGISTER OF MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS FOR IRELAND. [3rd August, 1961.]

BE IT ENACTED BY THE OIREACHTAS AS FOLLOWS:—

Amendment of section 2 of Medical Practitioners Act, 1951.

1.Section 2 of the Medical Practitioners Act, 1951 , is hereby amended by the insertion in paragraph (b) after “that section” of “or the Council is satisfied that—

(i) in addition to the qualifying diploma or diplomas aforesaid, he holds a degree or diploma granted outside the State and the United Kingdom which, in the opinion of the Council, affords sufficient guarantee that he possesses the requisite knowledge and skill for the efficient practice of medicine, surgery and midwifery and passed the examination appropriate for obtaining the degree or diploma granted as aforesaid, and

(ii) he has rendered, since obtaining the degree or diploma granted as aforesaid, satisfactory service in an appointment or appointments which, in the opinion of the Council, is such as confers or, are such as together confer, experience of the practice of medicine and surgery, or medicine, surgery and midwifery, not less extensive than that required for a certificate under section 3 of this Act or that he has otherwise acquired such experience as aforesaid.”

Short title and collective citation.

2.—(1) This Act may be cited as the Medical Practitioners Act, 1961.

(2) The Medical Practitioners Acts, 1927 to 1955, and this Act may be cited together as the Medical Practitioners Acts, 1927 to 1961.
