LEAGUE OF NATIONS (GUARANTEE) ACT, 1923.


AN ACT TO AUTHORISE THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL IN THE NAME AND ON BEHALF OF SAORSTAT EIREANN TO GIVE CERTAIN GUARANTEES TO THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS AND TO ACCEPT CERTAIN REGULATIONS PRESCRIBED BY THAT LEAGUE. [8th August, 1923.]

WHEREAS the Executive Council of Saorstát Eireann has made application to the League of Nations that Saorstát Eireann, being a fully self-governing State, be admitted to membership of the League, and the Oireachtas approves of and concurs in such application:

AND WHEREAS every State applying for membership of the League is required by Article 1 of the Covenant of the League of Nations to give effective guarantees of its sincere intention to observe its international obligations and also to accept such regulations as may be prescribed by the League in regard to its military, naval and air forces and armaments:

BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED BY THE OIREACHTAS OF SAORSTAT EIREANN AS FOLLOWS:—

Executive Council may give guarantees.

1.—It shall be lawful for the Executive Council of Saorstát Eireann, either as a condition precedent to the admission of Saorstát Eireann to the League of Nations or at any time after such admission, to give to the League, in the name and on behalf of Saorstát Eireann, such guarantees as shall be thought proper by the Executive Council and be acceptable to the League, of the sincere intention of Saorstát Eireann to observe its international obligations.

Executive Council may accept regulations.

2.—It shall be lawful for the Executive Council of Saorstát Eireann, either as a condition precedent to the admission of Saorstát Eireann to the League of Nations or at any time after such admission, to accept in the name and on behalf of Saorstát Eireann, such regulations asar e, or subject to ratification by the Oireachtas hereafter may be prescribed by the League in regard to its military, naval and air forces and armaments.

Short Title.

3.—This Act may be cited as the League of Nations (Guarantee) Act, 1923.
