Tenures Abolition Act 1662

All tenures of honours, manors, &c. turned into free and common socage.

IV. And all tenures of any honours, manors, lands, tenements, or hereditaments, or any estate of inheritance at the common law, held either of the King, or of any other person or persons, bodies politick or corporate, are hereby enacted to be turned into free and common soccage to all intents and purposes, from the three and twentieth day of October one thousand six hundred forty one, and shall be so construed and adjudged, and deemed to be from, the said three and twentieth day of October one thousand six hundred forty one, and for ever hereafter turned into free and common soccage; any law, statute, custome or usage to the contrary hereof in any wise notwithstanding.
