BOROUGH OF SLIGO LOCAL ELECTORAL AREAS ORDER 2009

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 13th February, 2009.

The Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 and 24 of the Local Government Act 1994 (No. 8 of 1994), hereby orders as follows:

1. This order may be cited as the Borough of Sligo Local Electoral Areas Order 2009.

2. In this Order “the Borough of Sligo” means the Borough of Sligo as altered for the purposes of local elections by the Local Government (Boundaries) (Town Elections) Regulations 1994 ( S.I. No. 114 of 1994 ) and references to the borough boundary shall be construed accordingly.

3. (1) The Borough of Sligo shall be divided into the local electoral areas which are named in the first column of the Schedule to this Order.

(2) Each such local electoral area shall consist of the area described in the second column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.

(3) The number of members of Sligo Borough Council to be elected for each such local electoral area shall be the number set out in the third column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of that local electoral area.

4. (1) A reference in the Schedule to this Order to a line drawn along any bridge, river, road or street shall be construed as a reference to an imaginary line drawn along the centre of such bridge, river, road or street.

(2) A reference in the Schedule to this Order to the point at which any bridge, river, road, street, boundary or imaginary line joins or intersects any other bridge, river, road, street, boundary or imaginary line shall be construed as a reference to the point at which an imaginary line drawn along the centre of such bridge, river, road or street or, in the case of a boundary or imaginary line, along the boundary or line, would be joined or intersected by an imaginary line drawn along the centre of the other bridge, river, road or street or, in the case of a boundary or imaginary line, along the boundary or line.

(3) A reference in the Schedule to this Order to a line drawn along a road which consists of a dual carriageway shall be construed as a reference to a line drawn along the central median of such dual carriageway.

5. The Borough of Sligo Local Electoral Areas Order 1994 ( S.I. No. 112 of 1994 ) is hereby revoked.

That part of the borough situated within a line drawn as follows: commencing at the intersection of Lord Edward Street and the N4 road; thence commencing in an easterly direction and proceeding along Wine Street to Hyde Bridge; thence commencing in a southerly direction and proceeding along the Garvoge River to its intersection with the borough boundary; thence commencing in a southerly direction and proceeding along the borough boundary to its intersection with Ballysadare Road; thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding along Ballysadare Road and Pearse Road to its intersection by an imaginary line projecting in an easterly direction from the southern boundary of the curtilage of the house named ‘Fatima’ on Pearse Road; thence commencing in a westerly direction and proceeding along the said imaginary line, along the southern boundary of the curtilage of the said house and continuing along the southern boundary of Highfield estate; thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding along the boundary of Highfield estate and Knocknaganny Park estate to the north-eastern most boundary of the house sites in Knocknaganny Park estate; thence commencing in a westerly direction and proceeding to the boundary of Knocknaganny Park estate and Caltragh Heights estate; thence commencing initially in a northerly direction and proceeding along the boundary between Caltragh Heights estate and Crozon estate to its intersection with Newtownholmes Road; thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding along Newtownholmes Road to the Crozon Roundabout; thence commencing in a clockwise direction and proceeding to the first exit off the said roundabout; thence commencing in a south-westerly direction and proceeding along the road linking the said roundabout with the N4 (Inner Relief Road) to the Caltragh Interchange on the N4 (Inner Relief Road); thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding along the N4 (Inner Relief Road) to the starting point.

Sligo North

That part of the borough situated within a line drawn as follows: commencing at the intersection of Strandhill Road with the borough boundary; thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding along the borough boundary to its intersection by the Garvoge River nearest the townland of Hazelwood Demesne; thence commencing in a north-westerly direction and proceeding along the Garvoge River to its intersection with Hyde Bridge; thence commencing in a westerly direction and proceeding along Hyde Bridge, Wine Street, Lord Edward Street and Strandhill Road to the starting point.

Sligo West

That part of the borough not contained in the local electoral areas of Sligo East or Sligo North.
