Shrimp (Fisheries Management and Conservation), Regulations 2006

I, John Browne, Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 15 of the Sea-Fisheries and Maritime Jurisdiction Act 2006 (No.8 of 2006), and the Marine (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) (No. 2) Order 2006 (No. 167 of 2006), hereby make the following regulations:

1       These Regulations may be cited as the Shrimp (Fisheries Management and Conservation) Regulations 2006

2.         For the purpose of these Regulations “Shrimp” means Palaemon spp.

3.         It is hereby prohibited to fish or attempt to fish for shrimp, to have in possession, to have on board a sea fishing boat, or attempt to land shrimp between the 9 May 2006 and the 1 August 2006, and between 1 May and 1 August in each subsequent year.

Explanatory Note

The effect of these Regulations is to provide for a closed season for shrimp fishing from 9 May 2006 to 1 August 2006. The closed season in subsequent years will be the period 1 May to 1 August.
