I, Brian Cowen, Minister for Finance in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2(1) of the Civil Service Regulation (Amendment) Act 2005 (No 18 of 2005), hereby order as follows: 1. This Order may be cited as the Civil Service Regulation (Amendment) Act 2005 (Commencement) (Section 8) Order 2005. 2. The 6th day of October 2005 is appointed as the day on which section 8 of the Civil Service Regulation (Amendment) Act 2005 shall come into operation. | ||||||||||||

This Statutory Instrument, which supersedes Statutory Instrument 629 of 2005, commences Section 8 of the Civil Service Regulation (Amendment) Act 2005 . This means that it is now possible to appoint persons who have attained the age of 65 years to the Civil Service, provided they are new entrants. In accordance with the provisions of the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2004 they will have no mandatory retiring age |
