SOCIAL WELFARE (MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS) ACT, 2004 (SECTION 9) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER 2004.

The Minister for Social and Family Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 9 of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004 (No. 9 of 2004), hereby orders as follows:

Citation.

1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004 (Section 9) (Commencement) Order 2004.

Commencement.

2. The 19th day of November 2004 is appointed as the day on which section 9 of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004 (No. 9 of 2004) comes into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

This Order provides for the commencement of Section 9 of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004.

The Adoptive Leave Act 1995 (Extension of Periods of Leave) Order 2004 provides for an increase in the period of adoptive leave, permitted under the Adoptive Leave Act 1995 , from 14 to 16 weeks.

Section 9 of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2004 provides for the consequential increase in the number of weeks for which adoptive benefit is payable, from 14 to 16 weeks. This amendment takes effect from the 19th November 2004.
