S.I. No. 596/2002 - Bovine Diseases (Levies) Regulations, 2002


I, JOE WALSH, Minister for Agriculture and Food, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 2 (2) and 19 (1) of the Bovine Diseases (Levies) Act 1979 (No. 26 of 1979) (as adapted by the Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2002 ( S.I. No. 306 of 2002 )), hereby make the following regulations with respect to which, pursuant to section 2(5) of that Act, a draft has been laid before each House of the Oireachtas and a resolution approving of the draft has been passed by each such House:

1.         (1)      These Regulations may be cited as the Bovine Diseases (Levies Regulations 2002.

(2)      These Regulations come into operation on the 1st day of January, 2003.

2.         The prescribed amount of levy payable under section 2 of the Bovine Diseases (Levies) Act 1979 (No. 26 of 1979) shall be -

(a)    as regards milk, one cent per gallon, and

(b)    as regards animals slaughtered or exported live, €5.08 per animal.

3.         The Bovine Diseases (Levies) Regulations 1998 ( S.I. No. 224 of 1998 ) are revoked.

These Regulations which come into effect on the 1st of January 2003 prescribe new rates of disease levy on milk for processing and on bovine animals slaughtered or exported live.
