MAXIMUM PRICES (BUTTER) (NO. 4) ORDER, 1982.

The Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Sections 22A and 22C (inserted by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1965 (No. 23 of 1965)) of the Prices Act, 1958 (No. 4 of 1958), as amended by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1972 (No. 20 of 1972), the Prices Stabilisation Order, 1973 ( S.I. No. 96 of 1973 ), and the Industry, Commerce and Tourism (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1981 ( S.I. No. 290 of 1981 ), hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Maximum Prices (Butter) (No. 4) Order, 1982.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of August, 1982.

3. The maximum prices at which butter (other than butter in ½ lb. foil wrapped packs containing no salt and marked as such by the manufacturer), whether foil wrapped or parchment wrapped, may be sold by retail shall be—

( a ) in the case of butter in 1 lb. parchment wrapped packs, 84p per 1 lb.,

( b ) in the case of butter in 1 lb. foil wrapped packs, 85p per 1 lb.,

( c ) in the case of butter in ½ lb. parchment wrapped packs—

(i) if one pack only is comprised in the transaction, 42p per ½ lb.,

(ii) if more than one pack is comprised in the transaction, 42p per ½ lb. in the case of one of the packs and 42p per ½ lb. in the case of each of the other packs.

( d ) in the case of butter in ½ lb. foil wrapped packs—

(i) if one pack only is comprised in the transaction, 42 ½p per ½ lb.,

(ii) if more than one pack is comprised in the transaction 42½p per ½ lb. in the case of one of the packs and 42½p per ½ lb. in the case of each of the other packs,

( e ) in the case of butter in 500 gram foil wrapped packs, 93½p per 500 grams,

( f ) in the case of butter in 250 gram foil wrapped packs—

(i) if one pack only is comprised in the transaction, 47p per 250 grams,

(ii) if more than one pack is comprised in the transaction, 47p per 250 grams in the case of one of the packs and 46½p per 250 grams in the case of each of the other packs,

( g ) in any other cases, prices calculated at the rate of 84p per lb.

4. Where butter (other than butter in ½ lb. foil wrapped packs containing no salt and marked as such by the manufacturer) is sold by retail in a packet purporting to contain a specified weight of the butter, the packet shall be deemed, for the purposes of this Order, to contain that weight of butter.

5. The Maximum Prices (Butter) (No. 3) Order, 1982 ( S.I. No. 207 of 1982 ), is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order fixes the maximum retail prices which may be charged for butter.
