S.I. No. 342 of 1998.

WATERFORD COUNTY BOROUGH LOCAL ELECTORAL AREAS ORDER, 1998

The Minister for the Environment and Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 and 24 of the Local Government Act, 1994 (No. 8 of 1994), hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Waterford County Borough Local Electoral Areas Order, 1998.

2. (1) The County Borough of Waterford shall be divided into the local electoral areas which are named in the first column of the Schedule to this Order.

(2) Each such local electoral area shall consist of the area set forth in the second column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.

(3) The number of members of the council of the County Borough of Waterford to be elected for each such local electoral area shall be the number set forth in the third column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of that local electoral area.

(4) The number of said members to be elected for each such local electoral area who are to be aldermen shall be the number set forth in the fourth column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of that local electoral area.

3. Every reference in the Schedule to this Order to:

(1) the County Borough shall be construed as a reference to the County Borough of Waterford as existing at the date of this Order: and

(2) an electoral division shall be construed as a reference to such area as described in the Waterford County Borough (Wards) Regulations, 1983 ( S.I. No. 28 of 1983 ) and therein referred to as a ward.

4. The Waterford County Borough (Electoral Areas) Order, 1988 ( S.I. No. 36 of 1988 ) is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The effect of this Order is to amend the division of Waterford County Borough into local electoral areas, to fix the number of members to be elected for each electoral area and the number of aldermen to be elected for each electoral area.
