WATERFORD COUNTY BOROUGH (ELECTORAL AREAS) ORDER, 1988.

The Minister for the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 6 of the Waterford City Management Act, 1939 (No. 25 of 1939), as substituted by section 87 of the Electoral Act, 1963 (No. 19 of 1963), hereby orders as follows:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Waterford County Borough (Electoral Areas) Order, 1988.

2. The County Borough of Waterford shall be divided into the electoral areas set out in the first column of the Schedule to this Order.

3. Each such electoral area shall consist of the area described in the second column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such electoral area.

4. The number of members of the Council of the County Borough to be elected for each such electoral area shall be the number set out in the third column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such electoral area.

5. The number of the said members to be elected for each such electoral area who are to be aldermen shall be the number set out in the fourth column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such electoral area.

6. Every reference in the Schedule to this Order to a ward shall be construed as a reference to such ward as defined in the Waterford County Borough (Wards) Regulations, 1983 ( S.I. No. 28 of 1983 ).

7. The Waterford County Borough Electoral Areas Order, 1967 ( S.I. No. 12 of 1967 ) and the Waterford County Borough (Electoral Areas) (Amendment) Order 1985 ( S.I. No. 113 of 1985 ) are hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order divides the County Borough of Waterford into three electoral areas for the purposes of local elections and specifies the number of members of the Council of the Borough to be elected for each area and the number of these members who are to be aldermen.
