URBAN RENEWAL ACT, 1986 (DESIGNATED AREAS) (LIMERICK) ORDER, 1994.

The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 6 (2) of the Urban Renewal Act, 1986 (No. 19 of 1986) hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Urban Renewal Act, 1986 (Designated Areas) (Limerick) Order, 1994.

2. Each of the areas described in Part II of the Schedule to this Order is hereby declared to be a designated area for the purposes of the Urban Renewal Act, 1986 .

3. Each of the streets or parts of those streets described in Part III of the Schedule to this Order is hereby declared to be a designated area for the purposes of the Urban Renewal Act, 1986 .

SCHEDULE

Part I

In this Schedule—

"thoroughfare" includes any bridge, lane, laneway, parade, place, quay, roadway, row, street, villas and wall;

a reference to a line drawn along any thoroughfare is a reference to a line drawn along the centre of that thoroughfare;

a reference to a projection of any thoroughfare is a reference to a projection of a line drawn along the centre of that thoroughfare;

a reference to the point where any thoroughfare or projection of any thoroughfare intersects or joins any other thoroughfare or projection of a thoroughfare is a reference to the point where a line drawn along the centre of one thoroughfare, or in the case of a projection of a thoroughfare, along the projection, would be intersected or joined by a line drawn along the centre of the other thoroughfare or, in the case of another projection of a thoroughfare, along the other projection;

a reference to a point where any thoroughfare is intersected by the projection of a boundary is a reference to the point where a line drawn along the centre of such thoroughfare would be interested by the projection of such boundary.

Part II

Description of Limerick Designated Area

Nicholas Street Area

That part of the county borough of Limerick bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where Creagh Lane meets George's Quay, then continuing in a westerly direction along George's Quay to the point where it is joined by Matthew Bridge, then continuing in a southerly direction along Matthew Bridge to the point where it is intersected by the northern quay wall of the Abbey River, then continuing, initially in a westerly direction, along the last-mentioned quay wall and the eastern quay wall of the River Shannon to the point where it is intersected by the south-westerly projection of the south-eastern boundary of the Court House, then continuing in a north-easterly direction along the last-mentioned projection and boundary and the north-easterly projection thereof to the point where it intersects Merchants Quay, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along Merchants Quay to the point where it is intersected by the south-westerly projection of St. Augustine Place, then continuing in a north-easterly direction along the last mentioned projection and St. Augustine Place to the point where it is joined by Crosbie Row, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along Crosbie Row to the point where it joins Newgate Lane, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along an undefined straight line through the last mentioned point and the Westernmost Point of the Alms Houses' Boundary to the point where it intersects the south-eastern wall of King John's Castle, then continuing, initially in a north-easterly direction, along that wall and the north-easterly projection thereof to the point where it intersects Nicholas Street, then continuing in a north-easterly direction along Nicholas Street and The Parade to the point where it is joined by Castle Street, then continuing along Castle Street to the point where it is joined by Verdant Place, then continuing along Verdant Place to the point where it is joined by the laneway (also known as Verdant Place) immediately to the north of Villers Alms Houses, then continuing in a north-easterly direction along that laneway to the point where it meets Dominick Street Old, then continuing in a south-easterly direction along Dominick Street Old, Barrack Street, Bishop Street, Athlunkard Villas and the south-easterly projection thereof along the laneway which connects Athlunkard Villas with Meat Market Lane to the point where it intersects Meat Market Lane, then continuing in a south-westerly direction along Meat Market Lane and Creagh Lane to the first-mentioned point.

Mount Kennett Area

That part of the county borough of Limerick bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where Henry Street is intersected by Lower Mallow Street, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along Lower Mallow Street and the north-westerly projection thereof to the point where it intersects the south-eastern quay wall of the River Shannon, then continuing, initially in a south-westerly direction, aong that quay wall to the point where it is intersected by the north-westerly projection of O'Curry Street, then continuing in a south-easterly direction along the last-mentioned projection and O'Curry Street to the point where it joins Henry Street, then continuing in a north-easterly direction to the first-mentioned point.

William Street/Cathedral Place Area

That part of the county borough of Limerick bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where Cathedral Place meets Garryowen, then continuing in a northerly direction along the roadway to the east of St. John's Church to the point where it is intersected by the south-easterly projection of John's Street, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along that projection and John's Street to the point where it is joined by Church Street, then continuing in a south-westerly direction along Church Street to its end, then continuing in a northerly direction along Old Francis Street to the point where it is intersected by the north-easterly projection of the rear south-eastern boundary of number 21 Sean Heuston Place, then continuing in a south-westerly direction along the last-mentioned projection and boundary and the rear boundaries of numbers 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27 Sean Heuston Place, the south-eastern boundary of number 28 Sean Heuston Place and the south-westerly projection thereof to the point where it is intersected by the south-easterly projection of the rear boundary of number 29 Sean Heuston Place, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along the last mentioned projection and boundary and the rear boundaries of numbers 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 and 36 Sean Heuston Place and the western boundary of the last-mentioned premises to the point where it is joined by the northern boundary of the premises, then continuing in an undefined straight line from the last-mentioned point to the westernmost point on the boundary of number 1 Sean Heuston Place, then continuing, initially in a northerly direction, along the western and rear boundaries of number 1 Sean Heuston Place, the rear boundaries of numbers 2-15 Sean Heuston Place and the north-easterly projection of the rear boundary of number 15 Sean Heuston Place to the point where it intersects Old Francis Street, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along Old Francis Street to the point where it meets Mungret Street, then continuing in a south-westerly direction along Mungret Street to the point where it joins Corn Market Row, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along Corn Market Row and Robert Street to the point where it joins Upper Denmark Street, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along Upper Denmark Street to the point where it is joined by Chapel Street, then continuing in a south-westerly direction along Chapel Street to the point where it joins William Street, then continuing in a south-easterly direction along William Street and Upper William Street to the point where it is joined by Lower Gerald Griffin Street, then continuing along Lower Gerald Griffin Street to the point where it is joined by William's Lane, then continuing along William's Lane and Summer Street to the point where it joins Cathedral Place, then continuing in a north-easterly direction along Cathedral Place to the first-mentioned point.

Ellen Street/Bank Place Area

That part of the county borough of Limerick bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where Ellen Street is joined by Michael Street, then continuing in a north-easterly direction along Michael Street to the point where it meets Bank Place, then continuing in a westerly direction along Bank Place to the point where it meets Rutland Street, then continuing in a south westerly direction along Rutland Street and Patrick Street to the point where it is joined by Ellen Street, then continuing along Ellen Street to the first-mentioned point.

Part III

The following streets or parts of streets in the county borough of Limerick which are not part of any area described in Part II of this Schedule:

(i) Catherine Street,

(ii) Patrick Street,

(iii) O'Connell Street from the point where it meets Patrick Street to its junction with William Street,

(iv) William Street from its junction with O'Connell Street to its junction with Wickham Street.
