OIREACHTAS (ALLOWANCES TO MEMBERS) (TRAVELLING FACILITIES) REGULATIONS 2009

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 21st August, 2009.

I, BRIAN LENIHAN, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 5 (as amended by section 18 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) and Ministerial, Parliamentary, Judicial and Court Offices (Amendment) Act 1998 (No. 5 of 1998)) of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) and Ministerial and Parliamentary Offices (Amendment) Act 1964 (No. 14 of 1964), hereby make the following regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) (Travelling Facilities) Regulations 2009.

2. In these Regulations “Regulations of 1998” means Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) (Travelling Facilities and Overnight Allowance) Regulations 1998 ( S.I. No. 101 of 1998 ).

3. Regulation 3 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) (Travelling Facilities) (Amendment) Regulations 1994 ( S.I. No. 343 of 1994 ) is amended in paragraph (a) by substituting “€55” for “ £45.00” (inserted by Regulation 3 of the Regulations of 1998) and “24 August 2009” for “1st day of January 1994”.

4. Regulation 4 of the Regulations of 1998 is amended by substituting “€55” for “ £45.00” and “24 August 2009” for “1st day of January 1998” in paragraphs (a) and (b)(i).

These Regulations amend existing regulations which provide for the payment of a daily travel expense allowance to members of the Oireachtas who live within 15 miles of Leinster House and those other members who opt for it.

The allowance is reduced by 10% to €55.
