SEA POLLUTION (PREVENTION OF OIL POLLUTION) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS 2008 | ||

I, NOEL DEMPSEY, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 10, 12, 14, 15 and 17 of the Sea Pollution Act 1991 (No. 27 of 1991) and the Maritime Transport, Safety and Security (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order 2005 ( S.I. No. 842 of 2005 ), hereby make the following regulations: | ||
1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Sea Pollution (Prevention of Oil Pollution) (Amendment) Regulations 2008. | ||
(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the day after they are made. | ||
2. The definition of “special area” in Regulation 2(1) of the Sea Pollution (Prevention of Oil Pollution) Regulations 2007 (S. I. No. 788 of 2007) is amended by the insertion of the following after paragraph (i) of that definition: | ||
“ (j) ‘Southern South African waters’ means the sea area enclosed by the following co-ordinates: | ||
(i) 31° 14 S; 17° 50 E; | ||
(ii) 31° 30 S; 17° 12 E; | ||
(iii) 32° 00 S; 17° 06 E; | ||
(iv) 32° 32 S; 16° 52 E; | ||
(v) 34° 06 S; 17° 24 E; | ||
(vi) 36° 58 S; 20° 54 E; | ||
(vii) 36° 00 S; 22° 30 E; | ||
(viii) 35° 14 S; 22° 54 E; | ||
(ix) 34° 30 S; 26° 00 E; | ||
(x) 33° 48 S; 27° 25 E; | ||
(xi) 33° 27 S; 27° 12 E;”. | ||

These Regulations provide for amendments to the Sea Pollution (Prevention of Oil Pollution) Regulations 2007 ( S.I. No. 788 of 2007 ), which give effect to Annex I of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, adopted by the International Maritime Organization on 2 November, 1973 and as amended by its Protocol adopted on 17 February, 1978, (MARPOL 73/78) and as further amended under a resolution adopted by the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization. |
