S.I. No. 338/2001 - Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (Restriction on Movement of Certain Animals) (No. 2) (Second Amendment) Order, 2001


I, Joe Walsh, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 , 5 , 27 (a) and 28 (a) of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966) (as adapted by the Agriculture and Food (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1999 ( S.I. No. 307 of 1999 )), hereby order as follows:

1.       This Order may be cited as the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (Restriction on Movement of Certain Animals) (No. 2) (Second Amendment) Order, 2001 and shall come into operation on 16th July, 2001.

2.       The Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (Restriction on Movement of Certain Animals) (No. 2) Order, 2001 ( S.I. No. 308 of 2001 ) is amended, in Article 2 by the substitution for the definition of “animal” of the following definition -

“animal” means an animal of the bovine, caprine or ovine species or any other biungulate but does not include a member of the porcine species or a goat.”.

The effect of this Order is to remove restrictions, due to the Foot-and-Mouth disease situation, on the movement of pigs and goats.
