Foot-and Mouth-Disease (Restriction of Import of Horses and Greyhounds)(No.2) Order, 2001

I, Joe Walsh, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 and 30 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966) (as adapted by the Agriculture and Food (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1999 ( S.I. No. 307 of 1999 ) hereby, for the prevention of spreading of foot-and-mouth disease, order as follows:-

1.     (1)   This order may be cited as the Foot-and Mouth-Disease (Restriction of Import of Horses and Greyhounds) (No.2) Order, 2001.

(2)   The Foot-and Mouth-Disease (Restriction of Import of Horses and Greyhounds) Order, 2001 ( S.I. No. 52 of 2001 ) and the Foot-and Mouth-Disease (Restriction of Import of Horses and Greyhounds) (Amendment) Order, 2001 ( S.I. No. 70 of 2001 ) are hereby revoked.

(3)   In this order “horse” includes any member of the equine species.

2.     (1)   A person shall not import a horse or greyhound from the United Kingdom or France except under and in accordance with a licence granted in that behalf by the Minister.

(2)   The Minister may grant a licence under paragraph (1) or refuse an application.

(3)   The Minister may attach such conditions as he or she considers reasonable to a licence granted under paragraph (1).
