MONEY ORDER AMENDMENT (No. 31) SCHEME 1989.

AN POST, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Section 70 of the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983 (No. 24 of 1983) and with the concurrence of the Minister for Communications, hereby makes the following Scheme:

1. This Scheme may be cited as the Money Order Amendment (No. 31) Scheme, 1989.

2. This Scheme shall come into operation on the 1st day of August, 1989.

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Scheme.

4. In this Scheme:—

"the Principal Regulations" means the Money Order Regulations, 1903.

"the Regulations of 1960" means the Money Order Amendment (No. 16) Regulations, 1960 ( S.I. No. 49 of 1960 ).

"the Regulations of 1986" means the Money Order Amendment (No. 29) Regulations, 1986 ( S.I. No. 95 of 1986 .

"the Regulations of 1989" means Money Order Amendment (No. 30) Regulations, 1989 ( S.I. No. 33 of 1989 ).

5. Regulation 3(3) of the Principal Regulations as amended by Regulation 5 of the Regulations of 1960 is hereby replaced by the following:

"3 ( a ) No inland money order shall be issued for an amount exceeding £500.00.

( b ) No foreign money order shall be issued for an amount exceeding £250.00, or such lesser sum as An Post may from time to time direct".

6. Regulation 18(l) of Principal Regulations is hereby amended by the substitution of the following tables for Table A (inserted by Regulation 5 of the Regulations of 1989) and Tables B and C (inserted by Regulation 5 of the Regulations of 1986) which set out the poundage payable in respect of money orders:

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Scheme applies to the Money Order service and comes into operation on the 1st of August 1989. It authorises an increase in the amount for which a money order can be written and specifies and increases the charges to be levied.
