NATURE RESERVE (SLIEVE BLOOM MOUNTAINS) ESTABLISHMENT ORDER, 1985.

I, PADDY O'TOOLE, Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, after consultation with the Minister for Agriculture, the Minister for Communications and the Commissioners of Public Works in Ireland, being satisfied that the land specified in Article 2 of the following Order, being land to which section 15 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 (No. 39 of 1976), applies, includes a mountain blanket bog ecosystem which is of scientific interest and that the said ecosystem is likely to benefit if measures are taken for its protection and that it is desirable to establish the said land as a nature reserve, and that the proper management of the said land as a nature reserve would not be precluded by any interest of any other person in or over the said land, for the 'purpose of conserving the said ecosystem do hereby, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 15 of the said Act, as adapted by the Fisheries (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1978 ( S.I. No. 195 of 1978 ), and amended by section 5 of the Ministers and Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 1983 (No. 40 of 1983), order as follows:

1. (1) This Order shall be cited as the Nature Reserve (Slieve Bloom Mountains) Establishment Order, 1985.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 16th day of December, 1985.

2. (1) It is hereby declared that the land specified in paragraph (2) of this Article shall constitute and there is hereby established a nature reserve.

(2) The land referred to in paragraph (1) of this Article is all that part of the land known as Slieve Bloom Mountains. situate in the townlands of Capard, Cones, Tinnahinch, Garranbaun, Glendine in the barony of Upperwoods, Glenkitt, Island, Ballynalug, Garragh Upper, Glendine in the barony of Tinnahinch, Glendineoregan, Glenkeen Upper, Scarroon, Baunreagh, Bockagh, Bordowin, Brisha, Monicknew, Barcam, Forelacka, Glendine in the barony of Ballybrit, Glendossaun, Glenregan, Cummer, Glenamoon and Gorteennameale in the counties of Laoighis and Offaly (other than any part thereof which forms part of a public road), and which is referred to in the map contained in the Schedule to this Order and thereon delineated in red.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Order establishes part of the lands situate in the townland of Capard, Cones, Tinnahinch, Garranbaun, Glendine in the barony of Upperwoods, Glenkitt, Island, Ballynalug, Garragh Upper, Glendine in the barony of Tinnahinch, Glendineoregan, Glenkeen Upper, Scarroon, Baunreagh, Bockagh, Bordowin, Brisha, Monicknew, Barcam, Forelacka, Glendine in the barony of Ballybrit, Glendossaun, Glenregan, Cummer, Glenamoon and Gorteennameale in the counties of Laoighis and Offaly as a nature reserve so that it can be managed in such a way as to ensure the conservation of the mountain blanket bog ecosystem which it constitutes.
