FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE (RESTRICTION OF SPORTS AND SALES) ORDER, 1968.

I, NEIL T. BLANEY, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966), hereby, for the prevention of the spreading of foot and mouth disease, order as follows :

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Foot and Mouth Disease (Restriction of Sports and Sales) Order, 1968.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 14th day of February, 1968.

(3) The Foot and Mouth Disease (Restriction on Sports and Sales) Order, 1967 ( S.I. No. 253 of 1967 ), the Foot and Mouth Disease (Restriction of Sports and Sales) (Amendment) Order, 1967 ( S.I. No. 277 of 1967 ), and this Order may be cited together as the Foot and Mouth Disease (Restriction of Sports and Sales) Orders, 1967 and 1968.

2. (1) Horse-racing (other than point-to-point racing), horse jumping competitions, dog-racing, the training of any dog for any kind of dog-racing and the public sale of dogs of any kind are hereby prohibited save under and in accordance with a licence granted in that behalf by the Minister.

(2) Article 4 of the Foot and Mouth Disease (Restriction of Sports and Sales) Order, 1967, as amended by the Foot and Mouth Disease (Restriction of Sports and Sales) (Amendment) Order, 1967, shall, in so far as it relates to horse-racing (other than point-to-point racing), horse jumping competitions, dog-racing, the training of any dog for any kind of dog-racing and the public sale of dogs of any kind, cease to have effect.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order amends the Foot and Mouth Disease (Restriction of Sports and Sales) Order, 1967 and the Foot and Mouth Disease (Restrictions of Sports and Sales) (Amendment) Order, 1967, so as to provide that horse-racing (other than point-to-point racing), horse jumping competitions, dog-racing, the training of any dog for any kind of dog-racing and the public sale of dogs may be permitted under licence.
