APPRENTICESHIP COMMITTEE FOR THE FURNITURE TRADE (DUBLIN) (CONFIRMATION OF RULES) (No. 3) ORDER, 1958.

I, SEAN F. LEMASS, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by subsection (1) of Section 9 of the Apprenticeship Act, 1931 (No. 56 of 1931), hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Apprenticeship Committee for the Furniture Trade (Dublin) (Confirmation of Rules) (No. 3) Order, 1958.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The Rules set out in the Schedule to this Order are hereby confirmed and shall come into operation on the 21st day of October, 1958.

SCHEDULE.

The Rules of the Apprenticeship Committee for the Furniture Trade (Dublin) as set out in Apprenticeship Committee for the Furniture Trade (Dublin) (Confirmation of Rules) Order, 1946, ( S. R. & O. No. 375 of 1946 ) and Apprenticeship Committee for the Furniture Trade (Dublin) (Confirmation of Rules) Order, 1958 ( S.I. No. 101 of 1958 ) are hereby amended as follows, that is to say, by the deletion in the aforesaid Confirmation of Rules Order, 1958 ( S.I. No. 101 of 1958 ) of the paragraph commencing with the words " CLASS B—MALE APPRENTICES—ONE APPRENTICE " and by the substitution therefor of the following :—

CLASS B.—MALE APPRENTICES—ONE APPRENTICE to the first ONE, TWO OR THREE skilled male workers in that Class of the Trade, and thereafter, ONE additional apprentice for each complete group of FOUR skilled male workers in excess of the first THREE, in that Class.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of this Order is to confirm a new rule made by the Apprenticeship Committee for the Furniture Trade (Dublin) which restores the rule relating to the ratio of male apprentices to skilled workers in the upholstery branch of the furniture trade in the Dublin area that was in force prior to 21st April, 1958. An Order made on that date had the effect of restricting the intake of apprentices in the upholstery branch of the trade for a period of six months.
