SOCIAL WELFARE (UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT AND MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS) (TRANSITIONAL) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1956.

I, BRENDAN CORISH, Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 and 66 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952), and with the sanction of the Minister for Finance, hereby make the following regulations :

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Unemployment Benefit and Miscellaneous Provisions) (Transitional) (Amendment) Regulations, 1956.

2.—(1) Article 6 of the Social Welfare (Unemployment Benefit and Miscellaneous Provisions) (Transitional) Regulations, 1953 ( S.I. No. 2 of 1953 ), as amended by the Regulations specified in paragraph (2) of this Article, is hereby further amended by the substitution, in both paragraph (a) and paragraph (b), of " the 4th day of July, 1956 " for " the 3rd day of June, 1956."

(2) The amending Regulations referred to in paragraph (1) of this Article are :

(a) the Social Welfare (Unemployment Benefit and Miscellaneous Provisions) (Transitional) (Amendment) Regulations, 1954 ( S.I. No. 124 of 1954 ),

(b) the Social Welfare (Unemployment Benefit and Miscellaneous Provisions) (Transitional) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1954 ( S.I. No. 265 of 1954 ),

(c) the Social Welfare (Unemployment Benefit and Miscellaneous Provisions) (Transitional) (Amendment) Regulations, 1955 ( S.I. No. 92 of 1955 ), and

(d) the Social Welfare (Unemployment Benefit and Miscellaneous Provisions) (Transitional) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1955 ( S.I. No. 242 of 1955 ).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of these Regulations is to continue until the 4th July, 1956, the waiving for male and female existing contributors of the operation of the contribution condition for unemployment benefit requiring 50 paid or credited employment contributions in respect of the Contribution Year before the Benefit Year of claim. An existing contributor is a person whose insurance under the former National Health Insurance Acts was effective immediately before the Appointed Day (5th January, 1953) for the Social Welfare Act, 1952 . Such persons will not, therefore, during the extended period suffer reduction or loss of unemployment benefit by reason of having fewer than 50 contributions paid or credited in respect of the Contribution Year preceding the Benefit Year of Claim.
