TAKING OF PLEDGES ACT 1475

CHAPTER VIII.

Taking of pledges contrary to the Common Law to be felony.

Also, at the request of the Commons. That whereas in this land divers persons take pledges and convey, hold and convert the said pledges to their own use contrary to right, law and conscience. Whereupon the premises considered: It is enacted and adjudged by authority of the said Parliament that whatever person or persons, of whatsoever degree he or they may be, take any such pledges contrary to the Common Law, that by authority of the said Parliament he or they who so take or cause to be taken the said pledges shall be adjudged felon or felons attainted of our sovereign lord the King and their goods and chattels, lands and tenements now upon the making of the said Act shall be forfeited to our sovereign lord the King. Provided that he of whom the said pledges be taken be (not) amenable to the Common Law.
