I, DARRAGH O’BRIEN, Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purpose of giving further effect to Directive 2008/98/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 November 20081 on waste and repealing certain Directives, as amended by Commission Regulation (EU) No 1357/2014 of 18 December 20142 , Commission Directive (EU) 2015/1127 of 10 July 20153 , Council Regulation (EU) 2017/997 of 8 June 20174 and Directive (EU) 2018/851 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 May 20185 , hereby make the following regulations: | ||
1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Union (Waste Directive) (Amendment) Regulations 2025. | ||
2. In these Regulations – “Principal Regulations” means the European Communities (Waste Directive) Regulations 2011 (No. 126 of 2011) | ||
3. Regulation 2(1) of the Principal Regulations is amended by inserting the following: | ||
“ “Minister” means the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications.” | ||

This Statutory Instrument amends the European Communities (Waste Directive) Regulations 2011 (S.I. No. 126 of 201) to clarify the Minister with responsibility for the functions set out therein and to give further effect to Directive 2008/98/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 November 2008 on waste and repealing certain Directives. | ||
