S.I. No. 271/2015 - Garda Síochána Act 2005 (Commencement) Order 2015.

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 30th June, 2015.

I, FRANCES FITZGERALD, Minister for Justice and Equality, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005 (No. 20 of 2005) (as adapted by the Justice and Law Reform (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minster) Order 2011 ( S.I. No. 138 of 2011 )), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Garda Síochána Act 2005 (Commencement) Order 2015.

2. In this Order “Act of 2005” means the Garda Síochána Act 2005 (No. 20 of 2005).

3. The 30th day of June 2015 is appointed as the day on which section 4 of the Act of 2005 and Schedule 1 to the Act of 2005, insofar as those provisions are not already in operation, come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Statutory Instrument provides for the repeal of the Garda Síochána (Complaints) Act 1986 (as amended) with effect from 30 June 2015. On the repeal of the Act, the Garda Síochána Complaints Board and the Garda Síochána Complaints Appeal Board will be dissolved.
