S.I. No. 38/2014 - Local Government Reform Act 2014 (Commencement of Certain Provisions) Order 2014.


Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 4th February, 2014.

I, PHIL HOGAN, Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (22) of the Local Government Reform Act 2014 (No. 1 of 2014) hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Local Government Reform Act 2014 (Commencement of Certain Provisions) Order 2014.

2. The 30th day of January 2014 is appointed as the day on which the following provisions of the Local Government Reform Act 2014 (No. 1 of 2014) come into operation:

(a) sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7;

(b) section 19 in so far as it relates to the holding of elections to local authorities in 2014 and for the purposes of section 28(1)(d);

(c) section 20(3);

(d) Part 12 (sections 72 to 78);

(e) section 5(4) and Part 2 of Schedule 2 as they apply to the amendments as respects—

(i) section 165 (1) of the Electoral Act 1992 (No. 23 of 1992), and

(ii) section 19A and 19G of the Local Elections (Disclosure of Donations and Expenditure) Act 1999 (No. 7 of 1999).

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order commences certain provisions of the Local Government Reform Act 2014 namely sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 19 (in so far as it relates to the holding of elections to local authorities in 2014 and for the purposes of section 28(1)(d)), 20(3) and Part 12 (sections 72 to 78) together with a number of amendments in Part 2 of Schedule 2 related to the holding of a plebiscite regarding a possible office of directly elected mayor and related local governance arrangements in Dublin.
