S.I. No. 317/2014 - Criminal Justice (Forensic Evidence and DNA Database System) Act 2014 (Commencement) Order 2014.

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 11th July, 2014.

I, FRANCES FITZGERALD, Minister for Justice and Equality, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (2) of the Criminal Justice (Forensic Evidence and DNA Database System) Act 2014 (No. 11 of 2014) hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Criminal Justice (Forensic Evidence and DNA Database System) Act 2014 (Commencement) Order 2014.

2. The 9th day of July 2014 is appointed as the day on which the following provisions of the Criminal Justice (Forensic Evidence and DNA Database System) Act 2014 (No. 11 of 2014) shall come into operation:

(a) section 1;

(b) sections 2 and 109 in so far as those sections relate to sections 147 and 148;

(c) sections 147 and 148.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

This Order appoints 9 July 2014 as the date on which sections 147 and 148 of the Criminal Justice (Forensic Evidence and DNA Database System) Act 2014 come into operation. These sections provide for the recognition of accredited forensic service providers carrying out laboratory activities in EU Member States. The Order also commences section 1, the commencement provision, and sections 2 and 109 insofar as those sections relate to sections 147 and 148.
