S.I. No. 523/2002 - European Communities (Trade With Iraq) (Amendment) Regulations 2002

I, Mary Harney, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to Council Regulation (EC) No. 1346/2002 of 25 July 2002¹ , hereby make the following regulations:

1.         These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Trade with Iraq) (Amendment) Regulations 2002

2.         The following Regulation is substituted for Regulation 2 of the European Communities (Trade with Iraq) Regulations 1997 ( S.I. No. 370 of 1997 ):

“2. In these Regulations ‘Council Regulation’ means Council Regulation (EC No. 2465/96 of 17 December 1996² as amended by Council Regulation 1346/2002 of 25 July 2002¹ .”.

The effect of this Order is to amend the Statutory Instrument that provided for penalties for infringements of Council Regulation (EC) No. 2465/96 prohibiting trade with Iraq. This amendment gives effect to Council Regulation (EC) No. 1346/2002 of 25 July 2002, which amends the rules governing the trade embargo with Iraq.
