S.I. No. 655/2001 - European Communities (Animal Nutrition Inspections) (Amendment) Regulations, 2001

I, Joe Walsh, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, in exercise of the powers granted on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purposes of giving effect to Directive 2000/77/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 December, 2000¹ , Directive 2001/46/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 July, 2001² and for the purposes of giving further effect to Council Directive 95/53/EC of 25 October, 1995³ as amended, and Commission Directive 98/68/EC⁴ , hereby make the following Regulations.

1.       (1) These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Animal Nutrition Inspections) (Amendment) Regulations, 2001

(2) The European Communities (Animal Nutrition Inspections) Regulations, 2000 and these Regulations may be cited collectively as the European Communities (Animal Nutrition Inspections) Regulations, 2000 to 2001.

2.       The European Communities (Animal Nutrition Inspections) Regulations, 2000 are hereby amended by the following:-

(1) the substitution of the following definition of “Directives” in Regulation 2(1)

“Directives” means Council Directive 95/53/EC of 25 October 1995³ as amended by Council Directive 1999/20/EC⁵ of 22 March, 1999, Commission Directive 98/68/EC of 10 September 1998⁴ , Directive 2000/77/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 December, 2000¹ and Directive 2001/46/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council² .

These Regulations amend the European Communities (Animal Nutrition Inspections) Regulations, 2000 so as to give effect to Directive 2000/77/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 December, 2000. These establish a reliable harmonised procedure for the system of official inspections in the field of animal nutrition and improve on the protection measures which may be introduced.
