S.I. No. 9/2000 - Immigration Act 1999 (Section 11) (Commencement) Order


I, John O'Donoghue, Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 11 (2) of the Immigration Act, 1999 (No. 22 of 1999), hereby order as follows:

1.       This Order may be cited as the Immigration Act, 1999 (Section 11) (Commencement) Order, 2000.

2.       The 20th day of January, 2000, is hereby fixed as the day on which section 11 (other than paragraph (p) of subsection (1)) of the Immigration Act, 1999 (No. 22 of 1999) shall come into operation.

Explanatory Note

(This in not part of the instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation)

This Order provides for the commencement of section 11 of the Immigration Act 1999 (which provides for the amendment of the Refugee Act 1996 ) with the exception of section 11(1)(p) which amends section 22 (Dublin Convention) of the Refugee Act, 1996 . The amended provisions of the Refugee Act come into operation on the making of further commencement orders under section 30 of that Act.
