S.I. No. 133/1999 - Solicitors Act, 1954 (Section 44) Order, 1999.


I, JOHN O'DONOGHUE, Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 44 (6) (inserted by section 52 of the Solicitors (Amendment) Act, 1994 (No. 27 of 1994)) of the Solicitors Act, 1954 (No. 36 of 1954), (as adapted by the Justice (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1997 ( S.I. No. 298 of 1997 )), and being satisfied that, on the day appointed by this Order, reciprocal provisions will be in operation in the jurisdiction to which this Order relates in respect of solicitors whose names are on the roll, hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Solicitors Act, 1954 (Section 44) Order, 1999.

2. The 1st day of June, 1999, is hereby appointed as the day on which section 44 (inserted by section 52 of the Solicitors (Amendment) Act, 1994 (No. 27 of 1994)) of the Solicitors Act, 1954 (No. 36 of 1954), shall come into operation in relation to the profession of solicitor in New Zealand.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This order brings section 44 of the Solicitors Act, 1954 , inserted by section 52 of the Solicitors (Amendment) Act, 1994 , into operation in relation to the profession of solicitor in New Zealand. The effect of the order is that a solicitor qualified in New Zealand may be admitted as a solicitor in Ireland subject to the corresponding conditions under which solicitors whose names are on the roll may be admitted to practise in that country.
