SOCIAL WELFARE (CONSOLIDATION) ACT, 1993 (SIXTH SCHEDULE (PARAGRAPH 3)) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1995.

The Minister for Social Welfare in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 304 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (No. 27 of 1993), hereby orders as follows:

1 Citation.

1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (Sixth Schedule (Paragraph 3)) (Commencement) Order, 1995.

2 Commencement.

2. The provisions of paragraph 3 of the Sixth Schedule to the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 shall come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1996.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order brings paragraph 3 of the Sixth Schedule to the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 , which substitutes section 179 of that Act, into effect from 1 January, 1996.

Section 179 contains the legal provisions for the payment of supplements under the Supplementary Welfare Allowance scheme. Paragraph 3 substitutes these provisions with regulatory powers to prescribe the categories of people to whom supplements are payable and the conditions and circumstances under which supplements may be paid and the amount of such supplements.
