S.I. No. 112 of 1995.

SOCIAL WELFARE ACT, 1995 (SECTION 14) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1995

The Minister for Social Welfare in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 14 of the Social Welfare Act, 1995 (No. 3 of 1995), hereby orders as follows:

1 Citation.

1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare Act, 1995 (Section 14) (Commencement) Order, 1995.

2 Commencement.

2. Section 14 of the Social Welfare Act, 1995 shall come into operation—

( a ) in so far as it relates to disablement pension on the 1st day of May, 1995,

( b ) in so far as it relates to unemployment assistance on the 3rd day of May, 1995,

( c ) in so far as it relates to retirement pension, invalidity pension, deserted wife's benefit, pre-retirement allowance, lone parent's allowance (other than lone parent's allowance payable in respect of a widow or widower), carer's allowance and family income supplement on the 27th day of April, 1995, and

( d ) in so far as it relates to death benefit under section 60 or 62 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (No. 27 of 1993), old age (contributory) pension, survivor's pension, orphan's (contributory) allowance, old age (non-contributory) pension, blind pension, lone parent's allowance payable in respect of a widow or widower and orphan's (non-contributory) pension on the 28th day of April, 1995.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order brings section 14 of the Social Welfare Act, 1995 into effect.

Section 14 extends the definition of a qualified child, for the purpose of paying child dependant increases with long-term social welfare payments, to include 21 year olds who are in full-time education. The section comes into effect in respect of the various payments involved from different dates over the period 27 April, 1995 to 3 May, 1995.
