URBAN RENEWAL ACT, 1986 (DESIGNATED AREAS) ORDER, 1990.

The Minister for the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 6 (2) of the Urban Renewal Act, 1986 (No. 19 of 1986), hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Urban Renewal Act, 1986 (Designated Areas) Order, 1990.

2. Each of the areas described in Part II of the Schedule to this Order is hereby declared to be a designated area for the purposes of the Urban Renewal Act, 1986 .

SCHEDULE

PART I

In this Schedule—

"thoroughfare" includes any alley, avenue, batter, bridge, channel, court, hill, gate, lane, mall, market, parade, place, quay, river, road, row, square, street, terrace, wall and way;

a reference to a line drawn along any thoroughfare is a reference to a line drawn along the centre of that thoroughfare;

a reference to a projection of any thoroughfare is a reference to a projection of a line drawn along the centre of that thoroughfare;

a reference to the point where any thoroughfare or projection of any thoroughfare intersects or joins any other thoroughfare or projection of a thoroughfare is a reference to the point where a line drawn along the centre of one thoroughfare, or in the case of a projection of a thoroughfare, along the projection, would be intersected or joined by a line drawn along the centre of the other thoroughfare or, in the case of another projection of a thoroughfare, along the other projection;

a reference to a point where any thoroughfare intersects or joins a boundary or the projection of a boundary is a reference to the point where a line drawn along the centre of such thoroughfare would intersect or join such boundary or projection of such boundary.

PART II

DESCRIPTION OF DESIGNATED AREAS IN DUBLIN

George's Quay/Townsend Street Area

That part of the county borough of Dublin bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where Moss Street joins Townsend Street, then continuing in a westerly direction along Townsend Street, to the point where it intersects Tara Street, then continuing in a northerly direction along Tara Street to the point where it intersects Poolbeg Street, then continuing in a westerly direction along Poolbeg Street to the point where it joins Hawkins Street, then continuing in a northerly direction along Hawkins Street and the northerly projection thereof to the point where it intersects the River Liffey, then continuing in an easterly direction along the River Liffey to the point where it is intersected by Talbot Memorial Bridge, then continuing in a southerly direction along Talbot Memorial Bridge and Moss Street to the first-mentioned point.

Area South of Christchurch

That part of the county borough of Dublin bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where Mercer Street Upper meets Cuffe Street, then continuing, initially in a westerly direction, along Cuffe Street, Kevin Street Lower, Kevin Street Upper, Dean Street, Francis Street and Saint Augustine Street to the point where it meets Wormwood Gate, then continuing, initially in an easterly direction, along Wormwood Gate and Bridge Street Upper to the point where it joins Cornmarket, then continuing in an easterly direction along Cornmarket to the point where it joins Back Lane, then continuing along Back Lane to the point where it meets Nicholas Street, then continuing in a north-easterly direction along Nicholas Street and Christchurch Place to the point where it meets Lord Edward Street, then continuing in an easterly direction along Lord Edward Street, Cork Hill and Dame Street to the point where Dame Street meets Palace Street, then continuing, initially in a southerly direction, along Palace Street and Dame Lane to the point where it joins Trinity Street, then continuing, in a south-easterly direction along Trinity Street to the point where it meets St. Andrew's Lane then continuing, initially in a south-westerly direction along Saint Andrew's Lane, to the point where it meets Exchequer Street, then continuing in a westerly direction along Exchequer Street to the point where it meets Drury Street, then continuing along Drury Street to the point where it meets Stephen Street Lower, then continuing, initially in an easterly direction, along Stephen Street Lower, Johnson Place, Mercer Street Lower and Mercer Street Upper to the first-mentioned point.

That part of the county borough of Dublin bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where Synnott Row meets Synnott Place, then continuing along Synnott Place and Gardiner Street Upper to the point where it joins Sherrard Street Upper, then continuing along Sherrard Street Upper to the point where it meets North Circular Road, then continuing, initially in a north-westerly direction, along Belvedere Road and Innisfallen Parade to the point where it joins Valentia Parade, then continuing along Valentia Parade to the point where it meets North Circular Road, then continuing in an easterly direction along North Circular Road to the point where it intersects Synnott Row, then continuing in a southerly direction along Synnott Row to the first-mentioned point.

Dorset Street Upper Area

That part of the county borough of Cork bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where Oliver Plunkett Street Lower meets Parnell Place, then continuing in a northerly direction along Parnell Place and the northerly projection thereof to the point where it is intersected by the River Lee (North Channel), then continuing in a westerly direction along the River Lee to the point where it is intersected by St. Patrick's Bridge, then continuing in a northerly direction along St. Patrick's Bridge, Bridge Street and St. Patrick's Hill to the point where it meets St. Patrick's Place, then continuing initially in an easterly direction along St. Patrick's Place and Wellington Road to the point where it meets York Street, then continuing in a southerly direction along York Street to the point where it meets MacCurtain Street, then continuing in an easterly direction along MacCurtain Street to the point where it meets Brian Boru Street, then continuing in a southerly direction along Brian Boru Street and Brian Boru Bridge to the point where it is intersected by the River Lee (North Channel), then continuing in an easterly direction along the River Lee to the point where it is intersected by Michael Collins Bridge, then continuing in a southerly direction along Michael Collins Bridge and Custom House Street to the point where it meets Oliver Plunkett Street Lower, then continuing initially in a westerly direction along Oliver Plunkett Street Lower to the first-mentioned point.

Union Quay/Anglesea Street Area

That part of the county borough of Cork bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where Anglesea Street is intersected by the easterly projection of Copley Street, then continuing in a westerly direction along that projection and Copley Street and the westerly projection thereof to the point where it intersects the River Lee (South Channel), then continuing initially in a northerly direction along the river to the point where it is intersected by Parnell Bridge, then continuing in a southerly direction along Parnell Bridge and Anglesea Street to the first-mentioned point.

DESCRIPTION OF DESIGNATED AREAS IN GALWAY

Merchant Road/Dock Area

That part of the county borough of Galway bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where Merchants Road is joined by St. Nicholas Street, then continuing in a south-westerly direction along Merchants Road, Merchants Road Lower and the south-westerly projection thereof to the point where it meets the River Corrib, then continuing initially in a south-easterly direction then in an easterly direction along the River Corrib and the easterly projection thereof to the point where it is intersected by the south-easterly projection of Dock Street, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along the last-mentioned projection and Dock Street to the point where it meets Dock Road, then continuing in a north-easterly direction along Dock Road to the point where it is joined by St. Nicholas Street, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along St. Nicholas Street to the first-mentioned point.

Bridge Street/Quay Street Area

That part of the county borough of Galway bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where Cross Street Upper meets Bridge Street, then continuing in a westerly direction along Bridge Street and William O'Brien Bridge to the point where it intersects the River Corrib then continuing in a southerly direction along the River Corrib to the point where it intersects Wolfe Tone Bridge, then continuing in a north-easterly direction along Wolfe Tone Bridge and the north-easterly projection thereof to the point where it is intersected by the south-westerly projection of Quay Street, then continuing in a north-easterly direction along the last-mentioned projection and Quay Street to the point where it meets Cross Street Upper, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along Cross Street Upper to the first-mentioned point.

Frenchville Lane/Forster Street

That part of the county borough of Galway bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where Frenchville Lane meets Forster Street, then continuing in a north-easterly direction along Forster Street to the point where it is intersected by the north-westerly projection of the south-western boundary of No. 18 Forster Street then continuing in a south-easterly direction along that projection and boundary to the point where it meets the boundary of the grounds of the city abbatoir, then continuing in a southerly direction along that boundary to the point where it meets the boundary of Ceannt Station, then continuing initially in a south-westerly direction along the last mentioned boundary to the point where it is intersected by the south-easterly projection of Frenchville Lane, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along Frenchville Lane to the first-mentioned point.

Ellen Street/Denmark Street Area

That part of the county borough of Limerick bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where the westerly projection of the boundry to the rear of No. 7 William Street intersects Todd's Row, then continuing in a northerly direction along Todd's Row to the point where Todd's Row joins Denmark Street, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along Denmark Street to the point where it is joined by Market Alley, then continuing along Market Alley to the point where it is intersected by the southerly projection of the north-western boundary of No. 18 Ellen Street, then continuing in a north-easterly direction along that projection and boundary and the north-easterly projection thereof to the point where it intersects Ellen Street, then continuing initially in a south-easterly direction along Ellen Street to the point where it meets Carr Street, then continuing initially in a southerly direction along Carr Street and Robert Street to the point where it joins Upper Denmark Street, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along Upper Denmark Street to the point where it is joined by Chapel Street, then continuing in a south-westerly direction along Chapel Street to the point where it would be intersected by an imaginary line drawn from the first-mentioned point in a south-easterly direction parallel with William Street, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along that imaginary line to the first-mentioned point.

DESCRIPTION OF DESIGNATED AREAS IN WATERFORD

Custom House Quay/High Street Area

That part of the county borough of Waterford bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where Olaf Street meets High Street, then continuing in a westerly direction along High Street and Blackfriars to the point where it meets Barronstrand Street, then continuing in a northerly direction along Barronstrand Street, and the northerly projection of Barronstrand Street to the point where it intersects the River Suir, then continuing in a south-easterly direction along the River Suir to the point where it is intersected by the northerly projection of Greyfriars, then continuing in a southerly direction along the last-mentioned projection and Greyfriars and the southerly projection thereof to the point where it meets the northern boundary wall of the Waterford Corporation Offices known as The Old Deanery, then continuing initially in a westerly direction, then in a southerly direction along the northern and western boundaries of those offices to the point where it is intersected by the easterly projection of the northern boundary of the Cathedral at Cathedral Square, then continuing in a westerly direction along that projection and boundary and the westerly projection thereof to the point where it joins Henrietta Street, then continuing in a northerly direction along Henrietta Street to the point where it joins Peter Street, then continuing along Peter Street to the point where it joins Olaf Street, then continuing in a northerly direction along Olaf Street to the first-mentioned point.

Adelphi Quay Area

That part of the county borough of Waterford bounded by a line commencing at the point (hereafter in this description referred to as the first-mentioned point) where the bridge between Lombard Street and William Street (hereafter in this description referred to as William Street Bridge) is intersected by St. John's River, then continuing initially in a north-easterly direction along St. John's River to the point where it joins the River Suir, then continuing in a north-westerly direction along the River Suir to the point where it is intersected by the north-easterly projection of the Mall, then continuing in a south-easterly direction along the last-mentioned projection and the Mall to the point where it joins Lombard Street then continuing along Lombard Street and William Street Bridge to the first-mentioned point.
