INSURANCE ACT, 1989 (PARTS I, II, III AND V) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1989.

The Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 1 of the Insurance Act, 1989 , (No. 3 of 1989), hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Insurance Act, 1989 (Parts I, II, III and V (Commencement) Order, 1989.

2. The 20th day of March, 1989, is hereby appointed as the day on which Parts I, II, III and V of the Insurance Act, 1989 (No. 3 of 1989) shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order brings into operation Parts I, II, III and V of the Insurance Act, 1989 (No. 3 of 1989). Part I ("Preliminary and General") contains the usual technical provisions. Part II ("Supervision of Insurers") extends the supervisory powers of the Minister with respect to insurance companies. Part III ("Payment of Commissions by Insurers") allows the Minister to regulate insurance commission payments. Part V ("Miscellaneous") contains provisions regarding appeals procedures, appointments and powers of authorised officers and codes of conduct on duty of disclosure and warranties.
