NATURE RESERVE (CAPEL ISLAND AND KNOCKADOON HEAD) ESTABLISHMENT ORDER, 1985.

I, PADDY O'TOOLE, Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, after consultation with the Minister for Agriculture, the Minister for Communications and the Commissioners of Public Works in Ireland, being satisfied that the land specified in Article 2 of the following Order, being land to which section 15 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 (No. 39 of 1976), applies, includes an ecosystem which is of scientific interest and that the said ecosystem is likely to benefit if measures are taken for its protection and that it is desirable to establish the said land as a nature reserve and that the proper management of the said land as a nature reserve, would not be precluded by any interest of any other person in or over the said land, for the purpose of conserving the said ecosystem do hereby, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 15 of the said Act, as adapted by the Fisheries (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1978 ( S.I. No. 195 of 1978 ), and amended by section 5 of the Ministers and Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 1983 (No. 40 of 1983), order as follows:

1. (1) This Order shall be cited as the Nature Reserve (Capel Island and Knockadoon Head) Establishment Order, 1985.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 16th day of December, 1985.

2. (1) It is hereby declared that the land specified in paragraph (2) of this Article shall constitute and there is hereby established a nature reserve.

(2) The land referred to in paragraph (1) of this Article is all that part of the foreshore and the land which forms the seabed under the territorial seas of the State both of which are situate adjacent to the townlands of Capel Island and Knockadoon in the county of Cork and known as Capel Island and Knockadoon Head and are shown on the map contained in the Schedule to this Order and thereon delineated in red together with that part of the land situate in the townland of Knockadoon being an area of approximately 216 square feet which part is at the point lettered A in red on the said map.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Order establishes all that part of the foreshore and the land which forms the seabed under the territorial seas of the State both of which are situate adjacent to the townlands of Capel Island and Knockadoon, County Cork as a nature reserve so that it can be managed in such a way as to ensure the conservation of the coastal heathland ecosystem which it constitutes.
