EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order declares that the Governments of the countries specified in the Schedule thereto have accepted the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974. It replaces the Merchant Shipping (Safety Convention) (Countries of Acceptance) Order, 1983 ( S.I. No. 320 of 1983 ) so as to give an updated list of those countries that have accepted the Convention.

The principal effect of the declaration is that certain Convention certificates issued by the Governments of the countries listed will be regarded as having the same force in the State as certificates issued by the State.
