INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH AND STANDARDS (SECTION 44) (CHILDREN'S COTS) ORDER, 1983.

I, JOHN BRUTON, Minister for Industry and Energy, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 44 of the Industrial Research and Standards Act, 1961 , (No. 20 of 1961) and the Industry and Energy (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1983 ( S.I. No. 21 of 1983 ), hereby make the following Order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Industrial Research and Standards (Section 44) (Children's Cots) Order, 1983.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of September, 1983.

3. In this Order, "Child's Cots has the same meaning as the meaning specified in Irish Standards 250: 1981.

4. It shall be unlawful to manufacture, assemble or sell a Child's Cot unless it complies with Irish Standard 250: 1981 (being the standard specification for Children's Cots declared by the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of this Order is to prohibit the manufacture, assembly or sale of Children's Cots which do not meet the specified requirements of Irish Standard Specification I.S. 250: 1981 which provides minimum safety requirements for Children's Cots of fixed side, drop side and folding drop side type made of timber or metal.

The objective of the Order is, in the interests of greater safety, to eliminate the danger of serious or fatal accidents occurring due to the nature of the design of Children's Cots.
