SAFETY IN INDUSTRY ACT (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1982.

I, GENE FITZGERALD, Minister for Labour, in exercise of the power conferred on me by section 1 (2) of the Safety in Industry Act, 1980 (No. 9 of 1980), hereby order as follows:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Safety in Industry Act (Commencement) Order, 1982.

2. The 1st day of January, 1983, is hereby fixed as the day on which the following provisions of the Safety in Industry Act, 1980 (No. 9 of 1980), shall come into operation, namely:

( a ) section 7 in so far as it repeals sub-sections (18) and (19) of section 45 of the Principal Act, and

( b ) sections 22 (1), 24 (1) and 46.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order appoints the date on which certain provisions of the Safety in Industry Act, 1980 shall come into operation. The provisions in question extend the application of specified sections of the Factories Act, 1955 (as amended by the Safety in Industry Act, 1980 ) to docks, wharves and quays (including certain warehouses). Also included is a provision requiring to be posted up at factories an abstract of the Factories Act, 1955 as amended by the Safety in Industry Act, 1980 or any other enactment.
