S.I. No. 412/1981 - Food Standards (Certain Sugars) (European Communities) Regulations, 1981.


I, ALAN M. DUKES, Minister for Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Food Standards Act, 1974 (No. 11 of 1974), and the Agriculture and Fisheries (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1977 ( S.I. No. 31 of 1977 ), and having consulted the Minister for Health and the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism and such organisations as appear to me to be interested to a substantial extent in the subject matter of the regulations and for the purpose of giving effect to Commission Directive No. 79/786/EEC of 26 July, 1979(1) hereby make the following Regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Food Standards (Certain Sugars) (European Communities) Regulations, 1981.

(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 4th day of December 1981.

2. Products to which the Food Standards (Certain Sugars) (European Communities) Regulations, 1975 ( S.I. No. 118 of 1975 ), apply shall not be placed on the market unless the analyses necessary for the verification, in relation to those products, of the criteria set out in Annex I of Commission Directive 79/786/EEC of 26 July, 1979 are performed according to the methods described in Article 1 of and Annex II to that Directive.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of these Regulations is to give effect to Commission Directive No. 79/786/EEC of 26 July, 1979.

The Directive lays down methods of analysis for testing certain sugars intended for human consumption as described in Article 1 of the Directive.
