S.I. No. 271/1981 - Imposition of Duties (No. 252) (Stamp Duty on Bills of Exchange and Promissory Notes) Order, 1981.


The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Imposition of Duties Act, 1957 (No. 7 of 1957), and section 22 of the Finance Act, 1962 (No. 15 of 1962), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Imposition of Duties (No. 252) (Stamp Duty on Bills of Exchange and Promissory Notes) Order, 1981.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 16th day of August, 1981.

3. Section 41 of the Finance Act, 1970 (No. 14 of 1970), is hereby amended by the substitution of “5p” for “3p” in subsections (1) and (3) (inserted in each case by the Finance Act, 1981 (No. 16 of 1981)).

This Order provides for the charging of stamp duty at fivepence on bills of exchange and promissory notes drawn in the State including cheques.

This Order comes into operation on 16 August, 1981.
