S.I. No. 259/1981 - Foreign Births (Amendment) Regulations, 1981.


I, JOHN KELLY, Minister for Foreign Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 27 (5) of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 1956 (No. 26 of 1956), as adapted by the External Affairs (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1971 ( S.I. No. 158 of 1971 ), hereby, with the consent of the Minister for Finance, make the following Regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Foreign Births (Amendment) Regulations, 1981.

(2) The Foreign Births Regulations, 1956 to 1980 and these Regulations may be cited together as the Foreign Births Regulations, 1956 to 1981.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of August, 1981.

3. The Foreign Births Regulations, 1956 ( S.I. No. 224 of 1956 ), as adapted by the External Affairs (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1971 ( S.I. No. 158 of 1971 ), are hereby amended by:

(a) the substitution of “sixteen pounds” for “eight pounds” (inserted by Regulation 4 of the Foreign Births (Amendment) Regulations, 1980 ( S.I. No. 94 of 1980 )) in Regulation 7;

(b) the substitution of “two pounds” for “one pound” (inserted by the said Regulation 4) in Regulation 8;

(c) the substitution of “two pounds” for “one pound” (inserted by the said Regulation 4) in Regulation 9(1);

(d) the substitution of “sixteen pounds” for “eight pounds” (inserted by the said Regulation 4) in Regulation 12;

(e) the substitution of “two pounds” for “one pound” (inserted by the said Regulation 4) in Regulation 15; and

(f) the substitution of “two pounds” for “one pound” (inserted by the said Regulation 4) in Regulation 16(1),

and the said Regulations 7, 8, 9(1), 12, 15 and 16(1), as so amended, are set out in paragraphs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, respectively, of the Table to this Regulation.

1. 7. The fee to be charged for registration in a foreign births entry book shall be sixteen pounds.

2. 8. Any person may, on payment of a fee of two pounds, inspect at any diplomatic mission or consular office during the hours at which the mission or office is open for the transaction of business the foreign births entry book kept therein.

3. 9. (1) Any person may obtain a copy of an entry in a foreign births entry book on payment of a fee of two pounds.

4. 12. The fee to be charged for registration in the foreign births register shall be sixteen pounds.

5. 15. Any person may, on payment of a fee of two pounds, inspect the foreign births register at the Department of Foreign Affairs during the hours when the Department is open for the transaction of business.

6. 16. (1) Any person may obtain a copy of an entry in the foreign births register on payment of a fee of two pounds.

The purpose of these Regulations is to alter the fees chargeable in connection with entries in the Foreign Births Register and in the Foreign Births Entry Books kept in accordance with the provisions of the Foreign Births Regulations, 1956 ( S.I. No. 224 of 1956 ).
