LOCAL GOVERNMENT (ROADS AND MOTORWAYS) ACT, 1974 (DECLARATION OF NATIONAL ROADS) ORDER, 1980.

The Minister for the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 2 of the Local Government (Roads and Motorways) Act, 1974 (No. 6 of 1974) hereby orders and declares as follows:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Local Government (Roads and Motorways) Act, 1974 (Declaration of National Roads) Order, 1980.

2. (1) In this Order "the Principal Order" means the Local Government (Roads and Motorways) Act, 1974 (Declaration of National Roads) Order, 1977 ( S.I. No. 164 of 1977 ).

(2) This Order and the Principal Order may be collectively cited as the Local Government (Roads and Motorways) Act, 1974 (Declaration of National Roads) Orders, 1977 and 1980.

3. The public roads described in the First Schedule to this Order shall be National Roads.

4. Any reference to the number of a road in the descriptions of roads in the First Schedule to this Order shall be a reference to the number of such roads as shown in column 1 of the First and Second Schedules to the Principal Order.

5. In the First and Second Schedules to the Principal Order the descriptions of the roads the numbers of which are set out in column 1 of the Second Schedule to this Order are hereby respectively amended in the manner set out in the second column of the said Schedule opposite the mention of the numbers of the said roads in column 1.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order declares two former main roads to be national roads for the purposes of the Local Government (Roads and Motorways) Act, 1974 . This Order also amends, extends or deletes the descriptions of certain sections of roads contained in the First and Second Schedules to the Local Government (Roads and Motorways) Act, 1974 (Declaration of National Roads) Order, 1977. These amendments arise through recent road and traffic developments in the areas concerned.
