ROAD TRAFFIC (LICENSING OF DRIVERS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1974.

The Minister for Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 , 33 , 35 and 42 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) hereby makes the following Regulations :—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) (Amendment) Regulations, 1974.

2. These Regulations and the Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) Regulations, 1964 to 1973, shall be construed together as one regulation and may be cited together as the Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) Regulations, 1964 to 1974.

3. The Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) Regulations, 1964 ( S.I. No. 29 of 1964 ) are hereby amended by the substitution in article 4 (1) for the definition of "school bus" (inserted therein by article 4 of the Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) (Amendment) Regulations, 1969 ( S.I. No. 140 of 1969 )) of the following definition—

" "school bus" means a vehicle of Class E having passenger accommodation for not more than 53 persons, in use, other than in a county borough or in the borough of Dun Laoghaire, primarily for the carriage of passengers who are children, or children and teachers, going to or coming from school or school-related physical education activities;".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the definition of school bus so as to include a wider usage for school transport.
