MERCHANT SHIPPING (RECOGNITION OF CANADIAN CERTIFICATES OF COMPETENCY) ORDER, 1963.

WHEREAS the Government of Canada provide for the holding of examinations for the grant of certificates of competency as masters, first mates or second mates of foreign-going ships or as first class or second class engineers:

AND WHEREAS the Minister for Transport and Power is satisfied that the certificates so granted are granted on such principles as to show qualifications of competency which are adequate qualifications for service in Irish ships:

NOW, the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 7 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1947 (No. 46 of 1947), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Merchant shipping (Recognition of Canadian Certificates of Competency) Order, 1963.

2. Certificates of competency as masters, first mates or second mates of foreign-going ships or as first class or second class engineers granted by the authority appropriate for that purpose in Canada shall be of the same force within the State as if they had been granted by the Minister for Transport and Power under Part II of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order provides that certain certificates of competency as ships' officers granted in Canada shall be recognised for service on Irish vessels.
