ARBITRATION ACT, 1954 (SECTION 12 (2) AND PART V) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1960

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by subsection (3) of section 1 of the Arbitration Act, 1954 (No. 26 of 1954), hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Arbitration Act, 1954 (Section 12 (2) and Part V) (Commencement) Order, 1960.

2. The first day of February, 1960, is hereby fixed as the day on which subsection (2) of section 12 and Part V of the Arbitration Act, 1954 (No. 26 of 1954), shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order, which is complementary to the Arbitration (Foreign Awards) Order, 1960 ( S.I. No. 15 of 1960 ), fixes the 1st February, 1960, as the date of operation of section 12 (2) and Part V of the Arbitration Act, 1954 . The effect of both Orders is to allow for the enforcement on a reciprocal basis in the State of foreign arbitral awards arising out of matters that may lawfully be referred to arbitration under Irish law.
