EMERGENCY IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (No. 395) (POWDERS CONTAINING MALT EXTRACT) ORDER, 1957.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Emergency Imposition of Duties Act, 1932 (No. 16 of 1932), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, hereby order as follows :

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 395) (Powders containing Malt Extract), Order, 1957.

(2) This Order shall have effect as respects articles imported on or after the 9th day of April, 1957.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The duty of customs imposed by section 12 of the Finance (Customs Duties) (No. 2) Act, 1932 (No. 11 of 1932), shall not be charged or levied on preparations or mixtures in powdered form which contain malt extract and which are sweetened with sugar or other sweetening matter and do not contain cocoa, and, accordingly, the duty imposed by the Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 233) Order, 1948 ( S.I. No. 241 of 1948 ), shall be charged, levied and paid on the preparations or mixtures aforesaid.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order makes preparations or mixtures in powdered form, which contain malt extract, and which are sweetened with sugar or other sweetening matter and do not contain cocoa liable to the Customs duty on malt extract.
